CPN-UML chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the country has reached a serious state and that there is no alternative to a new movement to protect it. He gave the directive for party ranks to stay ready for a movement while addressing an oath-taking ceremony for nominated central members at the party's central office in Chyasal on Wednesday.

Chair Oli accused the government of moving towards fascism. He said that if the movement is shunned and no movement is carried out, the country cannot be protected. Stating that there is no alternative to a movement to protect independence and democracy, he also cautioned against the tendency to make arrests using plainclothes police.

On the timing of the movement, he said, "Whether it is now, tomorrow, after Tihar, or after Chhath, we must be mentally prepared. We must stay prepared from within." He also reminded that elections are approaching.
