Urgent work to proceed immediately in Manang: Chief Minister Pandey

Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey has said that urgent work will proceed immediately in flood and landslide-affected Manang.
During a field inspection in the district headquarters, Chame, on Wednesday, he said blocked roads, bridges and infrastructure including drinking water would be restored soon, and that work to normalize the lives of affected citizens would also begin immediately.
The Marsyangdi River had been blocked by a flood and landslide that occurred a few days ago in the Ghattekhola stream, which flows from the base camp area of Thado and Lamjung Himal. The Chief Minister listened to the concerns of local residents who have been living in fear since then.
Although water is flowing again, houses remain at risk from stones and debris piled up on the riverbed, and a concrete bridge has been buried. According to locals, the flood and landslide have damaged 6 houses in Chame.
Some hotels and houses have been flooded as the river started flowing on both sides of the bridge, and a hotel was washed away on Wednesday. Landslides have occurred at dozens of places on the Besisahar-Chame road, the only road connecting Manang.
