Landslide partially blocks Marsyangdi River in Manang's Chame

A landslide in Chame, the district headquarters of Manang, has blocked the Marsyangdi River. According to Chief District Officer Muktiprasad Khanal of the District Administration Office, Manang, the Marsyangdi River has been blocked near Chame.

According to Assistant Chief District Officer Krishnaprasad Paudel, the river was blocked after a landslide carrying mud came down from a local steep stream. The blockage has formed a pond.

Police, however, said the river has not been completely blocked and that water is still flowing. The river is only partially blocked.

As the risk of landslides increases, locals are waiting for a government rescue team. Locals said, 'If you can, come to rescue us — don't come looking for bodies after we're dead.'
