Vote counting for the posts of joint general secretary and women central members under the Nepali Congress's 15th general convention has begun.

According to the election committee, counting has been underway at six locations at the party's central office in Sanepa since Sunday evening.

Nine candidates are contesting for the two open joint general secretary seats. For the single women's joint general secretary seat, Nanumaiya Bastola and Pratima Gautam are competing.

For the 15 open women's central member seats, 36 candidates are in the race. Representatives of the candidates are present, and tight security has been arranged at the counting venue.

Counting for the vice-president and general secretary posts has been underway since Saturday. According to Himalaya Television, even after about 24 hours of continuous counting, not even half of the votes cast have been counted.

Central Election Officer Tulsiram Parajuli has estimated that counting all the votes will take about five to seven days. He said the count has been slow due to the large number of groups, the high number of candidates and the large volume of ballots.

Parajuli said the goal is to complete counting for vice-president and general secretary by tomorrow. Preparations are also underway to add more counting venues and election officers to speed up the process.
