Landslides damage 19 houses in Myagdi, Beni cut off

Continuous rain over the past three days has triggered landslides in Myagdi district, damaging 19 houses.

According to Assistant Chief District Officer Kulaprasad Acharya of the Myagdi District Administration Office, five cattle sheds had also collapsed by the evening of Asoj 10, and 28 families have been relocated to safe locations.

Floods and landslides have cut off rural settlements from the district headquarters, Beni Bazar. Electricity supply in the villages has also been affected.

Authorities have urged caution as water levels have risen in the Myagdi, Rahughat and Kaligandaki rivers.

Thirteen people from Ranwang, Mangala Rural Municipality-2, have been relocated, where two houses were damaged. Six families from Ghegare, Mangala-5, have been housed in the building of a mothers' group.

In Kindu, Annapurna Rural Municipality-5, two houses collapsed and two families were moved to safe locations.

The Beni-Jomsom, Beni-Darbang and Beni-Pakhapani roads have been blocked due to landslides, erosion and flooding.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in the mountainous and hilly areas of Gandaki Province on Asoj 11.
