Power supply in Kathmandu Valley is likely to be disrupted tomorrow, Saturday, and the day after, Sunday, due to conductor replacement work on the Matatirtha–Syuchatar 132 kV transmission line.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the line will be shut down from 9 am to 5 pm on Asoj 24 and 25.

The NEA said the line's capacity is being upgraded to make power supply in the valley more reliable, higher quality and sustainable.

The 132 kV Transmission Line Upgrade Project, under the authority's Project Management Directorate, is replacing the old, lower-capacity conductor on the double-circuit line with a higher-capacity HTLS conductor.

The NEA said about 400 meters of conductor remains to be replaced on one circuit.

Areas receiving power from the Matatirtha, Syuchatar and other related substations are likely to be affected while the line is shut down. The authority expects the line's power-carrying capacity to increase after the conductor replacement, helping with demand management.
