NCP launches two-month 'national awakening campaign', rules out unity with UML

The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) launched a two-month 'National Awakening Campaign' on Saturday, starting from Kartik 7. The campaign, which will run until Mangsir 25, was inaugurated by NCP coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal and co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal at the party's central office in Perisdanda. The party said leaders and cadres from the central to the local level will be mobilized during the campaign, with leaders visiting villages and neighborhoods to hear people's grievances.
The campaign aims to defend national independence, protect democracy and people's rights, transform the party, and lay the groundwork for building socialism. It has been launched with local and provincial elections at its center. In its appeal, the party acknowledged that its ties with the public have been weakening and that leader-centric and center-centric tendencies have been growing within the party.
At the event, coordinator Dahal said that while cooperation with UML on national issues is possible, party unity would not happen. He remarked that world politics is passing through a transitional phase, and that although the post-Second World War order is collapsing, a new order has yet to take shape.
Co-coordinator Nepal said he would counter, with facts, the narrative that the old parties have done nothing, announcing that detailed records of the work done by left and communist-led governments since 2047 BS would be made public. Meanwhile, leader Barshaman Pun, during the campaign in his home district of Rolpa, accused the government of failing on nationality, people's livelihoods, good governance, and service delivery.
