President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and right-wing senator Flavio Bolsonaro held a final debate on Friday ahead of Sunday's runoff presidential election in Brazil.

Their first debate with Flavio, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, had featured many insults and few concrete policies, but this time both candidates fielded questions on the economy, infrastructure and regional development. Though tones were calmer, neither side held back on sarcasm and jibes.

Lula pointed to the 45-year-old rival's lack of experience. He also accused former president Jair Bolsonaro, Flavio's backer, of leaving the country in a disappointing state.

Lula, Brazil's first working-class president, remarked that his rival had never experienced hunger. Polls project the two candidates to be running neck and neck in the decisive round.

Meanwhile, 81-year-old Lula, who has so far avoided using a personal mobile phone over concerns about recordings or leaks, has bought a smartphone for the first time. After receiving fewer votes than expected in the first round, he has focused on increasing his presence on social media. At a campaign rally on Saturday, he said he was learning to take selfies and use Instagram.
