Youths in Khotang gave free motorbike rides to 642 women this Dashain, taking them to their homes and maiti (maternal) households. Fifty young volunteers rode their own motorbikes at their own expense as part of the "Dashain, Tihar: A Gift for Sisters" campaign, now in its third year, led by Sanjaya Kumar Rai, chairperson of the Karate Federation Khotang.

According to Nirajan Dhakal, head of the campaign secretariat, the service ran for four days, from Kartik 3 to 6. Fifty women used the service on the first day, 110 on the second, 252 on the third and 230 on the fourth. Women from all 10 local levels of the district benefited from the service.

Although the secretariat, set up at Ratna Park in the district headquarters Diktel, aimed to cover up to 35 kilometres, the service extended as far as Chakheba pass on the Bhojpur border, 42 kilometres away, based on need. The campaign targets women and children who face transport shortages and financial constraints during the festival season.
