Firdous Alam elected Congress joint general secretary (Muslim) seat

Dr Mohammad Firdous Alam has been elected joint general secretary in the Muslim category at the Nepali Congress's 15th general convention.
According to the central election committee, he received about 3,300 votes. His rivals, Abdul Sattar and Athar Kamal Musalman, received about 2,700 and about 560 votes respectively.
Alam is the son of former minister Aftab Alam and was elected to the House of Representatives from Rautahat-2 in last Falgun's election.
In the Muslim open central member category, Dr Atabul Mansoori, Mohammad Irshad Ansari and Abdul Razzak Gaddi were elected. In the Muslim women's central member category, Jamila Khatun won with the highest number of votes.
Speaking to News Agency Nepal after his victory, Alam pledged to unite the party and take it to new heights. He said newly elected president Gagan Kumar Thapa was a capable leader who understood the needs of the party and the country and would move forward by bringing everyone together.
Noting that Congress has led the way in providing solutions whenever the country has faced crises, he said the party would continue to play that role in the days ahead. He said the party would correct past shortcomings at the leadership level while preserving its historical identity.
