Hearing committee to meet Monday to decide on proposed ambassador to Japan Thapa

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has called a meeting to decide whether to approve or reject the name of Gyanakumar Thapa, proposed as ambassador to Japan.
According to the committee's secretariat, the meeting will be held at 3 pm on Monday, Kartik 16, at Singha Durbar.
When the committee held hearings on Asoj 28, it decided on 12 other proposed ambassadors but kept Thapa's name on hold. The committee did not decide on him that day, saying satisfactory answers to questions raised during the hearing and necessary details had not been provided.
Questions had been raised about Thapa having renounced his Japanese permanent residency, the permanent residency status of his family members, and his having a house and property in Japan. Questions were also raised about him receiving a salary from a Japanese government body and serving as an adviser to a local government there.
A complaint had also been filed with the committee regarding this matter. The committee had sought details on Thapa through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
