Landslide destroys two-and-a-half-storey house in Dhapakhel, Lalitpur

A landslide in Dhapakhel, Lalitpur has completely destroyed a two-and-a-half-storey house.

The house, belonging to Sobit Kumar Thapa and located in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-24, Dhapakhel, was swept away by the landslide on Monday morning and landed in a nearby stream. According to the District Police Office, Lalitpur, the incident occurred at 6:35 am.

According to office spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Gautam Mishra, the stream in the area was also blocked after the house collapsed. The ground at the site had begun subsiding from Sunday itself. Police said the truss-built kitchen attached to the ground floor of the house had fallen about 20 meters down on Sunday afternoon.

After the risk increased, three members of Thapa's family had already moved in with relatives on Sunday. Spokesperson Mishra said all family members were safe because they left the house in time.

A team of four led by an assistant sub-inspector has been deployed to the site from the Dhapakhel police division. Lalitpur Metropolitan City's municipal police are moving belongings from the site to a safe location. A team from the Satdobato police circle has also reached the site to prepare a report. Police said they are collecting details of the risk and damage.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, moderate rainfall with lightning is forecast in a few places in the Himalayan and hilly regions today. The department has said there is a 30 percent chance of rain in Kathmandu.
