The Nepali Congress has said preparations for its 15th general convention are complete. The convention begins Sunday at Khula Manch in Kathmandu. On Saturday, at the inauguration venue, spokesperson Devraj Chalise told a press conference that efforts are being made to take the convention forward not only as a platform for choosing leaders but as a convention of "policy selection."

According to Chalise, more than 7,500 delegates will take part in the convention. This will be the largest delegate participation in the Congress's history. Chairman Gagan Thapa and Vice Chairman Sharma will present reports at the convention. Press conferences will be held twice a day to brief the public on the issues raised in the discussion sessions.

It has been customary for the chairman to inaugurate the convention, but this time an attempt has been made to have former chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba open it. If Deuba is not present, Chairman Gagan Thapa will inaugurate the convention.

Nomination registration for the Central Working Committee election will be held Monday from 2 pm to 6 pm. Delegate registration has already begun at the party office in Bipinagar, Sanepa. Hotels have been booked at various locations in Kathmandu to accommodate delegates.
