Spain to hold general election on November 29, announces Prime Minister Sánchez

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has announced a general election for November 29. He has decided to seek a fresh mandate before parliament's term ends.
In a video message from the Moncloa Palace on Monday morning, he said he will call an extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting the same day to dissolve parliament and call the election.
The announcement comes after parliament last Friday rejected two government decrees: one aimed at reducing the housing crisis and one to strengthen the security of people renting homes. The People's Party, Vox and the Catalan conservative party Junts per Catalunya had voted against those decrees.
With the rejection of the proposals, it has become clearer that the coalition government led by Sánchez's Spanish Socialist Workers' Party is weak in parliament. The government has been relying on the support of small and regional parties to pass laws.
