Blood banks run dry, Nepal Red Cross makes special appeal for donations

After blood stocks at blood banks ran out, the Nepal Red Cross Society has made a special appeal for blood donations. The society has called on donors and the general public to donate blood.

With the long Bada Dashain holidays underway, blood donation programs at the Central Blood Transfusion Service have been disrupted. Because festival-season holidays have prevented donation drives from being held, blood banks are facing an acute shortage.

After the blood bank in Kathmandu ran out of stock, the Red Cross has requested donors to come forward. The society says donations are urgently needed to rebuild the reserve for patients who require blood.

Reports of blood shortages in other places as well, caused by the lack of donation programs during the Dashain holidays, had already surfaced earlier.
