Foreign Minister Khanal returns from UN General Assembly, calls PM's address historic

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal returned home on Wednesday, Asoj 14, after attending the 81st session of the UN General Assembly and various high-level events held on the occasion. He arrived in Kathmandu from New York, United States, via Doha, Qatar.

Speaking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport soon after his return, Foreign Minister Khanal said the prime minister's address to the assembly was historic from many perspectives. He said there had been great international anticipation for the address by the prime minister, who took office after Nepal's recent political change, and that it was the most-watched address. According to him, the international community praised the address.

Minister Khanal said he had emphasized at the assembly that the compulsion to take on loans alone for post-disaster reconstruction caused by climate change must end.

He mentioned that various countries and agencies had shown interest in helping with reconstruction after the Bhotekoshi floods. He also said the international community was serious about the climate crisis Nepal is facing.
