Human Rights Commission objects after police block visit to Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana

The National Human Rights Commission has objected to police blocking its team from meeting former Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana.

The commission's team had reached the Teku police complex on Sunday morning to obtain information about the condition of Rana, who is in police custody. However, the commission said police did not allow the team to meet him.

In a statement issued Sunday, the commission said, "The commission expresses regret over this kind of conduct by Nepal Police, which is contrary to constitutional and legal rights." The commission also urged that its constitutional and legal rights be respected.

The commission has directed that action be taken against police who obstruct visits and monitoring.
