Power and internet cut off in Mustang for 36 hours

Power and internet services have been completely disrupted in Mustang since Saturday night after floods and landslides damaged electricity and internet infrastructure.

Both services have been down in the district for about 36 hours. According to Sanprasad Thakali, chief of the Nilgiri Consumers' Cooperative, the power distributor based in Jomsom, poles on the 33 kV transmission line coming from Dimukha in Parbat were damaged by floods and river erosion.

He said the Dana substation in Myagdi could not be charged and went out of service after infrastructure was damaged in the Parbat-Myagdi section. With services down, it has also been difficult to get information about the situation in the northern part of Myagdi, Thakali said.

However, power supply up to Beni in Myagdi resumed on Sunday evening after the line was repaired. A team has left Jomsom to assess the condition of the transmission line and the Dana substation.
