Tinau river flood sweeps away 6 houses in Butwal, over 1,000 moved to safety

A flood in the Tinau river in Rupandehi swept away six houses in the Top Majhuwa area of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-11. The river swelled on Saturday night after four consecutive days of rainfall.

According to the Area Police Office, the flood swept away two concrete and four temporary houses. The flood breached the embankment built to protect the settlement and entered it. Initial reports had said two houses were swept away and three others damaged.

Based on prior warnings, more than 1,000 people living near the river had already been moved to safety, so there was no loss of life.

Settlements along the riverbank remain at risk due to the flood, officials said.
