A suspension bridge linking Dhungebazar and Trishuli Bazar in Nuwakot has formally come into operation.

Built with financial support and technical coordination from the Federation of Contractors' Associations of Nepal (FCAN), the bridge is 267 metres long. FCAN chairperson Nikolas Pandey inaugurated the bridge.

Movement between the two markets had been cut off after the Bhotekoshi flood and landslide on Bhadau 10. Construction, which began in the third week of Bhadau, was completed in about a month.

At the inauguration, chairperson Pandey said the long administrative process requiring signatures at 50 places remains the main obstacle in development works. In his view, this bridge is an example of how quality work can be completed on time when such administrative hassle is avoided.

He said that after a site inspection on Bhadau 19 found that the government mechanism lacked the necessary equipment, contractors mobilized their own resources. He also informed that contractors from across the country had contributed more than 100 million rupees to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund.

Vidur municipality chief Rajan Shrestha and Nuwakot District Coordination Committee chief Rajendra Bikram Singh Thakuri praised the role played by the federation during the disaster.
