The Armed Police Force has deployed a team with two trained dogs at the Gaddachowki border crossing in Kanchanpur to curb the illegal trafficking of drugs, weapons and explosives.

Chief District Officer Madan Koirala inaugurated the dog squad on Asoj 31. The squad consists of a female Labrador named Alpha and a male German Shepherd named Delta. Alpha will detect drugs, while Delta will identify weapons and explosives.

Under the command of Armed Police Assistant Inspector Jagdish Bhatta, five trained police personnel and the two dogs began inspections from Saturday morning. The squad had been established on Asoj 27 at the Border Security Company headquarters in Bhimdatta Municipality-11.

Both dogs will be stationed at the Border Security Force company in Gaddachowki itself. The Armed Police Force had earlier deployed similar teams at Kakadbhitta in Jhapa in 2080, and at Birgunj in Parsa and Belahiya in Rupandehi in 2081. This year, Jamunaha in Banke and Gaddachowki have been added, bringing the total to two more crossings covered.

Chief District Officer Koirala said trained dogs are needed in border areas and that they will make security checks more effective.
