Dashain rituals are not halted by Venus's setting: Panchang Nirnayak Samiti

The Nepal Panchang Nirnayak Vikas Samiti (Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee) has said that claims circulating that Dashain should not be celebrated because of the setting of Venus are not scripturally valid.

The committee has clarified that even if Venus has set, none of the rituals of Navaratri (Badadashain) are halted. It noted that the procedure for Sharadiya Navaratri is observed every year during Ashwin Shukla Paksha.

The committee issued this clarification after claims spread that Badadashain should not be celebrated this year because of the setting of Venus.

According to the committee, citing the setting of Venus as a reason to halt Dashain rituals is not scripturally valid. Accordingly, the committee said the general public faces no obstacle in performing the rituals of Navaratri and Dashain as per tradition.
