The Nepali community living in northern Alabama in the United States has raised about $50,000 and deposited it in the Prime Minister's Relief Fund to help families affected by the Bhotekoshi floods.

According to the latest exchange rate set by Nepal Rastra Bank, the buying rate for one US dollar is Rs 151.80. At that rate, the contribution amounts to nearly 7.6 million Nepali rupees.

Ravi Lama, president of the North Alabama Nepali Society, expressed solidarity with Nepalis affected by the floods. He said standing by brothers and sisters back home in this time of hardship is a shared responsibility of every Nepali.

The society said that even from thousands of miles away, the unity, generosity and bond with the homeland of the diaspora community are reflected in this fund-raising. Before collecting the contribution, the society had also organized a prayer meeting and candle-lighting program in solidarity with Nepal's flood victims.

This information was made public from Kathmandu on Ashoj 30.
