Nepal Police has implemented a special security plan nationwide from Wednesday targeting the upcoming festivals. The plan will remain in effect for about a month and a half, until Kartik 30, the day after Chhath.

According to police, around 50,000 personnel will be mobilized nationwide under the plan. A police spokesperson said the plan covers matters ranging from public safety to the security of industrial establishments and roads.

Citing recent disasters and unemployment that could increase theft and robbery, a former Additional Inspector General of Police suggested formulating strategy accordingly.

The Madhesh Province Police Office said about 7,200 police personnel will be deployed at around 1,500 locations across the province's eight districts. Of these, the largest number, about 2,600, will be in Dhanusha. In Lalitpur, about 1,300 police, including a command force, have been deployed.

Parsa Police has urged people not to drive under the influence of intoxicants, not to gamble, and not to set off firecrackers.
