UML announces protests against government after festival season

CPN-UML has announced it will launch protests against the government as soon as the festival season ends. Party Secretary Mahesh Basnet gave this information to journalists at the party's central office in Chyasal on Tuesday.

He said the party is preparing to take to the streets because the government is mired in inflation, corruption and misgovernance. According to Secretary Basnet, the recently concluded Central Committee meeting had decided to protest the government's anti-people actions.

He said the same meeting had assigned the responsibility of further strengthening party unity as well as mobilizing cadres. He said the party has dispelled confusion and made the organization more militant.

He accused the government of moving ahead in an authoritarian style, warning that UML would no longer watch silently. He claimed the country's economy and people's livelihoods have reached a dire state.

Basnet called some recent arrests made by the government "vendetta politics," describing it as a strategy of "beating the daughter to scare the daughter-in-law." He argued that the government's days in power are now numbered.
