Two ministers have said that making laws needed for the development of science, technology and innovation, and for the country's prosperity, is a government priority. The government has set a target of enacting 165 laws.

Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam shared the government's priorities at an interaction programme with local residents in Bharatpur, Chitwan.

Both ministers said innovation, the use of technology and lawmaking were the government's first priority. Minister Pun acknowledged that since the ministry is new and lacked the necessary laws, there were some early difficulties.

He said that although the lawmaking process is long and complex, a legal basis has been created through ordinances. He added that the ministry will now speed up planning and research work. He claimed the government is moving forward to build a prosperous Nepal despite the challenges.

Minister Gautam said that in a democracy the people are supreme and elected representatives must be accountable to the people.
