Stale, unfit food at highway hotels: action to be taken against both hotels and drivers

Both hotel operators and vehicle drivers will face strict action if passengers fall sick after eating unfit food at highway hotels and restaurants.
The Department of Transport Management has issued a notice addressed to public vehicle drivers, hotel operators and passengers.
The step was taken after growing complaints that hotels where passenger vehicles stop lack cleanliness and serve stale, fly-infested food at inflated prices.
The department issued the notice following a decision taken at a meeting of concerned agencies held at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development.
Monitoring of such hotels and restaurants has also begun following the complaints.
From now on, drivers must give priority to places offering clean, hygienic and quality food for meals and snacks.
If the food is unhygienic or passengers feel they have been overcharged, they can call the police hotline, number 100.
Complaints can also be filed with the relevant government office.
