Nepathya's Kirtipur evening: a call to preserve language and music

At a Nepathya concert held at the Lab School ground in Kirtipur on Saturday, band founder and lead vocalist Amrit Gurung called for preserving language and musical heritage.
All tickets for the concert had already sold out, and the ground was prepared to hold around 8,000 spectators. Many young fans who could not get tickets went home disappointed.
Kirtipur is the very place where Nepathya gave its first performance. Three and a half decades ago, at the invitation of English department students at Tribhuvan University, the band had given an acoustic performance using just two guitars at the university's assembly hall.
Audiences from different generations who grew up listening to the band gathered for the concert. Following the success of the Kirtipur show, Nepathya has begun preparing for musical tours in India, eastern Nepal and Australia.
