Government to give flood victim families outside holding centers monthly financial support

The government will provide monthly financial support for housing and livelihood to families whose homes were damaged by floods and landslides but who are not staying in holding centers.
The Cabinet meeting held today decided to give 15,000 rupees per month to families with up to four members. Families larger than four members will receive an additional 2,000 rupees per month for each extra member.
The amount will be provided for up to six months, until alternative housing arrangements are made. The decision states that this amount will be given as immediate relief to families seeking temporary housing on their own.
Only families in areas declared as disaster crisis zones will receive the support. These include Chumnubri, Dharche and Aarughat rural municipalities in Gorkha, affected by the Budhigandaki flood, and wards 1 and 2 of Tripurasundari Rural Municipality in Dhading.
Galkot and Dhorpatan municipalities in Baglung, affected by floods and landslides from rainfall between Asoj 8 and 11, also fall under this scope. The government has declared these areas as crisis zones for three months.
Minister for Communication and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timalsina informed journalists about the decision. The meeting was held at Singha Durbar under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
The same meeting also decided to accept an emergency grant of goods and services from the government of Japan.
