Kathmandu metropolis asks residents to keep waste at home on Kattik 1, 3 and 4

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has requested residents not to put out household waste on Kattik 1, 3 and 4 but to keep it at home instead.
The metropolis said waste collection will remain shut on those three days because sanitation workers will be on leave to celebrate the main days of Dashain.
Sarita Rai, chief of the metropolis's Environment Management Department, has asked residents to separate the waste accumulating at home into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories and store them in different containers or bags.
She also asked that waste from homes, offices and businesses not be dumped on roads or public spaces but managed within one's own compound.
The metropolis said work at Banchare Danda, the Valley's final waste management site, will be affected from Kattik 1 to 4.
The request to keep waste at home was made because the closure of the sanitary landfill site there is expected to cause inconvenience in waste management.
The appeal is directed at all residents of the Valley, including those within Kathmandu metropolis.
The metropolis said waste collection and management will operate as normal on days other than the ones specified.
