Kaligandaki corridor to reopen in 3 to 6 days after damage at 46 locations

Preparations are underway to reopen the Maldhunga-Beni-Jomsom-Korala road under the Kaligandaki corridor, which has been blocked due to incessant rainfall, within 3 to 6 days. Rain since Asoj 8 has triggered landslides at various sections of the road, caused road cutting, and washed away the approach road of a bridge.

Floods and landslides have damaged 46 locations along the Beni-Jomsom-Korala section of this national pride road connecting the north and south. According to details from Mustang, it will take about a week for the road to become fully operational.

Meanwhile, floods in the Kaligandaki river have damaged the Maldhunga bridge connecting Parbat and Baglung, halting movement there.

After China asked Nepal to use the Korala checkpoint in Mustang instead of Tatopani in Sindhupalchok, goods imported into Nepal had begun coming via this route. According to BBC Nepali, within a month of this arrangement starting, the road up to the checkpoint has been blocked by landslides at numerous points, and some goods brought in for Dashain are stuck at Korala.
