Government claims ex-chief justice Karki not arrested but 'rescued' after security threat

The government has claimed that former Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabara (Rana) was not arrested. According to the government, he was rescued from his residence and taken to a safe location after his security was found to be at risk.

Government spokesperson and Education Minister Sasmita Pokharel gave this clarification on Tuesday in response to a journalist's question while announcing the Council of Ministers' decisions at Singha Durbar. According to her, Jabara had received a threat via mobile text message.

Spokesperson Pokharel said the threat did not come from Gen Z but from an unidentified group. She said police had 'rescued' him and provided security after the threat was received.

During the same briefing, journalists also asked why GB Rai, implicated in a cooperative fraud case, had not been arrested. In response, spokesperson Pokharel said police were investigating GB Rai.
