Public welfare ad dispute: Press Council, journalist federation spar; chair accuses federation of misbehaviour

A dispute has arisen between Press Council Nepal and the Federation of Nepali Journalists over the issue of public welfare advertisements. The atmosphere turned tense on Tuesday after an argument broke out during talks between a Federation team and Council office-bearers.

According to a press release issued by the Council on Tuesday, Council chairman Umesh Shrestha and staff were mistreated during discussions with the Federation leadership. A release issued by four Council members drew serious attention to the matter, stating that Chairman Shrestha was given threatening remarks inside his own office chamber and that staff were treated in a humiliating manner.

According to the report, one journalist warned Chairman Shrestha during the dispute, saying he would 'pick him up and throw him out of the window.'

Tension arose between the two institutions after a serious dispute broke out between the Council and the Federation over the issue of public welfare advertisements.
