Khadga challenges Thapa for Congress president; Sharma files for senior vice-president; panels banned

Leader Shyam Krishna Khadga has filed his candidacy for the president post under the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress.
The nomination was registered on Tuesday at the National Assembly Hall in Kathmandu.
Vice-president Vishwa Prakash Sharma has filed his candidacy for the post of senior vice-president, a post added through the amendment to the party constitution this time.
Those who have filed nominations for general secretary include the current general secretaries Pradeep Paudel and Gururaj Ghimire, along with Nain Singh Mahar, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Shankar Tiwari and Amar Singh Pun.
Under the new constitution, three general secretaries, including one woman, and three vice-presidents will be elected.
Vinod Chaudhary and Pushpa Bhusal, among others, have filed nominations for vice-president.
Raju Katuwal, member-secretary of the election committee, said the registration time has been extended from 4 pm to 6 pm.
Vice-president Sharma said that this time, forming panels and distributing chits asking for votes has been banned.
The schedule calls for more than 7,000 delegates to vote on Asoj 22.
