The faction led by outgoing Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has chosen new district chairpersons in several districts through district conventions held ahead of the 15th general convention.

In Chitwan, Milan Babu Shrestha was elected chairperson, with Deepak Adhikari as vice-chair and Ghanashyam Paudel "Shyam" as secretary.

At the Kapilvastu convention held in Taulihawa on Sunday, Rajesh Bahadur Singh was elected chairperson unopposed, along with other unopposed office-bearers. In Jhapa, a convention held in Birtamod on Saturday elected Krishna Humagain as chairperson unopposed.

In Pyuthan too, Pyuthan municipality's deputy mayor Devendra Verma was elected chairperson unopposed on Sunday. The Pyuthan convention also selected, by consensus, a 35-member district working committee and 35 delegates to the general convention.

Meanwhile, the Deuba faction has nominated Srijana Malla of Parbat as president of its sister organisation, the Nepal Student Union (NSU). Convention preparation committee coordinator Prof. Dr. Shashank Koirala handed Malla the responsibility through a letter dated Kartik 12, instructing her to hold the NSU's general convention within six months. Koirala had earlier nominated Dil Lama of Kavre as president of the Tarun Dal.

The Deuba faction is preparing to hold its 15th general convention from Mangsir 21 to 23. These conventions are taking place amid an ongoing dispute at the centre between the Deuba and Gagan Kumar Thapa factions over the party's official authority.
