40,000 volunteers build 108 Buddhist stupas in Bhutan in a single day

More than 40,000 volunteers in Bhutan built 108 Buddhist stupas in a single day on Sunday.
According to news agency AFP, the volunteers began work after midnight and completed all the stupas within the day. Each stupa stands about 15 meters tall and they were built along a 12-kilometer stretch of riverbank near the border with India.
The area falls within the planned Gelephu Mindfulness City. King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck established this special zone through a royal decree in 2024, with the aim of turning it into a vibrant economic hub.
Through the new city, Bhutan aims to create jobs that keep young people in the country while attracting investment in green technology. There are also plans to use cryptocurrency and digital assets in the city's development.
Landlocked Bhutan, situated between China and India, has a population of nearly 800,000. The country is known for its policy of prioritizing Gross National Happiness.
