Opposition holds massive rally in Delhi, demands resignation of India's chief election commissioner

Opposition parties in India's capital New Delhi held a massive rally on Sunday demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Parties of the opposition INDIA alliance took part in the rally led by Congress, while the Gen Z-led pressure group "Cockroach Janata Party" expressed support.
Tens of thousands of people had gathered at Ramlila Maidan since early morning, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi leading the rally. Workers who came from various states chanted slogans against the central government's policies, carrying flags and bands. The alliance was formed in 2023 with the goal of removing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government from power.
The rally comes just weeks after police used force against protesters in New Delhi. At the centre of the controversy is the voter list revision, under which about 130 million names have been removed from the draft list. The Election Commission says the revision was carried out to update the list by removing, among others, the names of people who have moved away from their registered addresses.
