First Kathmandu Film Festival concludes, 'Bhakunde Bhoot' wins heritage video award

The first Kathmandu Film Festival, organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan City, concluded on Sunday.
Kathmandu held the three-day festival as a member of UNESCO's Creative Cities Network for Film. The festival sought to connect cinema not just to the screen but to the city's art, culture and heritage.
The first day featured cultural performances and a heritage walk in the Basantapur area. The second day's main attractions were a red carpet ceremony and a gathering of filmmakers. That same day, a conversation was held between Indian actress Shabana Azmi and Nepali actress Swastima Khadka at Bhrikutimandap.
Azmi said commercial films provide financial strength while artistic films bring inner satisfaction.
Under the festival, the metropolitan city's 'My Culture, My Heritage' short video challenge was won by 'Bhakunde Bhoot', directed by Jeevan Sunuwar. The roughly five-minute video is based on traditional beliefs and mystery.
'The Soul of Guthi' by Anubhav Shrestha placed second, and 'Jhingu Chhe' by Saugat Sapkota placed third. About 35 videos were submitted to the challenge, of which around 11 were shortlisted in the initial round. Winners received their awards on Sunday.
