Parliament falls under shadow of power; Oli directs UML lawmakers to prepare for struggle

Nepal Communist Party (UML) has concluded that during the second session of Parliament, the government could not be made accountable to Parliament and legislative work has also not been effective. The conclusion was drawn at a meeting of the party's parliamentary party held Sunday at the party's central office in Chyasal, which also concluded that Parliament has come under the shadow of power.
At the meeting, Chair KP Sharma Oli instructed party lawmakers to prepare for struggle to protect democracy, the constitution and nationalism. He accused the government of failing to make lawmakers accountable and of trying to turn them into puppets.
Oli said that although UML is a numerically small opposition in Parliament, the main responsibility of protecting democracy and the constitution rests on UML's shoulders because of its historic role in creating them.
The meeting also decided to prepare to play a stronger role in the next session.
