Congress invites Oli, Prachanda and Lamichhane to convention inauguration

Nepali Congress has invited the top leaders of three major parties to the inauguration ceremony of its 15th general convention, to be held on Asoj 16.

According to co-general secretary Uday Shumsher Rana, invitations have been extended to Ravi Lamichhane, chairperson of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party; KP Sharma Oli, chairperson of CPN-UML; and Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda," coordinator of the Nepal Communist Party.

Rana met all three leaders on Friday and handed them invitation letters. The inauguration ceremony will be held at Khula Manch in Kathmandu. Congress has also invited representatives of all political parties, party leaders and cadres, well-wishers and the general public to attend.

According to a party official, preparations are also underway to invite political parties and representatives from neighboring countries as guests. Congress said its goal is to bring the ruling and opposition leadership onto the same stage to strengthen dialogue and goodwill among parties.

The convention will run until Asoj 19 and will select the party's new leadership. Meanwhile, the faction led by former president Sher Bahadur Deuwa has announced it will not participate in this convention and will instead hold a separate one from Mangsir 21 to 23.
