Parliamentary hearing committee approves 10 ambassadors, rejects nominees for Saudi Arabia and Malaysia

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the Federal Parliament has approved the names of 10 out of 13 ambassadors proposed for various countries. The committee meeting held on Wednesday unanimously approved the proposed ambassadors for India, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, Oman, South Korea, Spain and Sri Lanka.
Among those approved is Kalyan Raj Sharma, proposed as ambassador to China. The committee made the approval decision after calling in the proposed ambassadors and questioning them.
However, the committee refused to approve the name of Giri Bahadur Sunar, proposed as ambassador to Saudi Arabia. His nomination was rejected after questions arose over his moral conduct, qualifications and diplomatic experience, including the matter of his deportation from Germany. A complaint had been filed against him with the committee, including allegations of violence against women, and the committee had also questioned him on the issue.
Similarly, the committee also rejected the approval of Chudamani Kharel, who had been proposed as ambassador to Malaysia.
