Canada names Hamza Tariq as captain for League Two series against Nepal

Canada has announced a 15-member squad for its series against Nepal and Oman under the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two. The team will be led by 36-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Hamza Tariq, with Shreyas Movva named vice-captain.

Hamza is returning to Canada's ODI squad after a long gap. He made his ODI debut against Afghanistan in 2011 and last played an ODI against the Netherlands in 2014. After Canada lost its ODI status in 2014, its 50-over matches have been played with List A status. Hamza has scored 116 runs in 7 ODIs and 558 runs in 36 List A matches.

The squad also includes Yuvraj Samra, Aaron Johnson, Samit Gohil, Aditya Vardarajan, Harsh Thaker, Ajayveer Hundal, Akhil Kumar, Sukhjinder Singh, Sheel Patel, Kaleem Sana, Zahid Shirzad, Shivam Sharma and Dilraj Deol. Former captains Saad Bin Zafar and Nicholas Kirton have not been included.

In the League Two standings, Oman is fourth with 31 points from 28 matches. Canada is sixth with 25 points from 32 matches, and Nepal is seventh with 24 points from 32 matches.
