Congress convention: 7,255 representatives vote for new leadership, counting set to begin today

Voting began at 7am today (Friday) to elect a new Central Working Committee under the 15th General Convention of Nepali Congress. Although voting was scheduled to start at 7am, voters had been lining up since early morning.

A total of 7,255 representatives attending the convention will vote to choose the 297-member Central Working Committee. Convention representatives had been asked to be present at their respective constituencies by 6am.

Voting originally scheduled for Thursday was pushed back by a day due to delays in printing ballot papers. The election committee has prepared to begin vote counting today itself.

Each representative must vote on 23 separate ballot papers. According to those involved in setting up the polling venues, it is estimated that each voter will take about 30 minutes to cast their vote. Separate polling stations have been designated for representatives from different provinces.
