NEPSE falls by double digits, turnover crosses Rs 5 billion

The NEPSE index fell by about 16.5 points on Monday, the first trading day of the week. The index closed at around 2,613 points, a decline of about 0.6 percent.

About 13.2 million shares of more than 350 listed companies were traded, amounting to a turnover of roughly Rs 5.39 billion. On the previous trading day, Thursday, turnover stood at about Rs 5.44 billion.

All sub-indices except trading fell. The non-life insurance group dropped the most, by about 1.2 percent. Shares of around 50 companies rose in price while more than 220 companies saw their share prices fall.

Hathway Investment Nepal's share price fell by about 10.5 percent, the biggest drop of the day. Emerging Nepal's price also fell by nearly 10 percent.

Among debentures, Kumari Bank's debenture price rose by about 12 percent, while debentures of Laxmi Sunrise and Prime Bank also gained. Himalayan Distillery's shares saw the highest turnover by value, with transactions worth about Rs 358.2 million.
