Partly cloudy over hills and mountains, rain with thunder likely in some areas

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast partly cloudy skies over the country's mountainous and hilly regions today, while the weather will remain mostly clear in the Tarai.

According to the department, both a western low-pressure system and monsoon winds are currently affecting the country.

The department said light to moderate rain with lightning is likely in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Similar rain is also possible in one or two places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

In Kathmandu, the temperature is expected to range from 25 to 27 degrees Celsius, with a 30 percent chance of rain, the department said. Pokhara and Birendranagar have a 20 percent chance of rain, with temperatures expected to range from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius in Pokhara and 28 to 30 degrees Celsius in Birendranagar.

In the Tarai, Janakpur is expected to see temperatures of 32 to 34 degrees Celsius, while Biratnagar and Nepalgunj are expected to see 31 to 33 degrees Celsius, with no chance of rain.

The department's forecast for tomorrow is similar, with partly cloudy skies over the hills and mountains and clear weather in the Tarai. It said light rain or snow with lightning is possible in one or two places in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Karnali provinces tomorrow.
