NTA fines Nepal Telecom Rs 50,000 for launching internet package without approval

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority has fined Nepal Telecom Rs 50,000 for launching a new internet package without approval. The action was taken after the company implemented various internet packages and charges without prior approval.
The Authority found that some service providers holding licenses to operate internet (including email) services had acted in violation of their license conditions. The action was then taken under Section 47(1) of the Telecommunications Act, 2053 BS.
The fine was imposed on the same day Telecom made public a cheaper internet package priced at Rs 5,000.
