Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun has proposed relocating Myagdi's district headquarters from Beni Bazaar.

Minister Pun, who is also a House of Representatives member elected from Myagdi, put forward the view during talks with local representatives and office chiefs at the District Administration Office on the morning of Asoj 30. He argued that the headquarters should be moved to a safer, more suitable location given the high risk of river erosion and floods and landslides.

Minister Pun said that no matter how much risk-prone areas are protected, natural disasters cannot be prevented, so alternatives must be explored. He said discussions are now needed on where to relocate the headquarters and whether to protect Beni or move it elsewhere.

Following continuous rain from Asoj 8 to 11, flooding in the Kaligandaki River broke the permanent embankment at Ganeshtal in Beni Municipality-8. On the sloping hillside on the Kuna side of Beni, the ground has begun cracking and landslides have started.
