No reconciliation in criminal cases under any circumstances, says Law Minister Gautam

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam has made clear that reconciliation cannot take place in criminal cases under any circumstances.

She made this clarification at a meeting of a House of Representatives committee held on Monday at Singha Durbar. Minister Gautam said that arranging reconciliation in criminal cases is punishable by law.

During Monday's discussion of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, lawmakers raised serious questions about the country's current justice system and the state of women's safety. The discussion also raised questions about the leadership of the Reconciliation Council.

In response to the questions raised by lawmakers, Minister Gautam clarified the legal provisions on reconciliation in criminal cases.
