Kulekhani reservoir water level under control, risk of opening dam gates averted

With the water level of the Kulekhani reservoir coming under control, the risk of having to open the dam's main gates has been averted. The Nepal Electricity Authority's Kulekhani Project says the reservoir's water level currently remains within controlled limits and there is no immediate risk requiring the dam gates to be opened.

According to the Authority, this situation has resulted from a gradual improvement in weather and a low rate of increase in the water level. The project says it is monitoring the reservoir's condition, including on the basis of weather forecasts.

The Authority has made clear that there is currently no risky situation requiring the opening of the Kulekhani reservoir's main dam gates. Concern over the reservoir's water level had risen in recent days due to continuous rainfall.

The Authority made this information public at a time when floods and landslides are causing damage in various parts of the country, stating that the water level of the Kulekhani reservoir remains under control.
