Kabir Maharjan, rescued after 10 days trapped in tunnel, returns home

Kabir Maharjan, who was brought out alive after being trapped for 10 days in a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-3 'A' hydropower project in Rasuwa, has been discharged from hospital and returned home.

Maharjan, who was working as a mechanical supervisor at the project, was discharged on Friday after showing significant improvement in health. He had been trapped inside the dark tunnel following a massive flood that hit the project area on Bhadra 10.

A joint team of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force brought him out alive after 10 days. His rescue drew widespread attention both in Nepal and abroad.

After the rescue, Maharjan was admitted to hospital, where doctors kept his condition under continuous observation. Hospital sources said his condition gradually improved following the physical and mental strain of spending a long period in the tunnel.

At the time of discharge, Maharjan appeared fully conscious and in normal condition. On his way back to his residence in Lalitpur, locals welcomed him at various places, garlanding him with flowers and wishing him a speedy recovery. He also received a grand welcome at his residence.
